Keith and Dawn Melvin have certainly come a long way since opening up Furniture World in the storefront of an old Eckerd's Pharmacy in 1991.

The original Furniture World showroom was nestled in between a Bingo Hall and a second hand store in the quiet Miners Plaza on the corner of McGregor Boulevard and Gladiolus Road. By all accounts, the couple had odds stacked against them. They were young- Keith was barely 35- first time business owners, they didn’t have much in savings, and their location was anything but ideal. But Keith, a third generation Ft. Myers native, had something special about him- a keen business sense, a genuine likeability, and could truly relate with his customers- a recipe that helped his small business to eventually become a raging local success.

It's been 20 years now- Furniture World has survived hurricanes and a devastating South Florida recession- yet because of a loyal customer base and competitive prices with top notch quality- the "little store that could"- continues to thrive. In 2003, Keith moved his showroom from the old Eckerd's Pharmacy to a brand new 14,000 square foot state of the art showroom he built on the busy intersection of San Carlos Boulevard and Gladiolous. Walk into the impressive showroom, and you’ll find the latest trends of furniture styles as well as a large selection of wicker and rattan for that Florida look. Furniture World also carries Simmons Beautyrest Mattress sets. Less than a mile from the showroom, Keith built a 12,000 square foot warehouse- allowing him to keep a full stock of almost everything on his showroom floor- meeting the demands of next day delivery for his customers.

Today, Furniture World is the staple of a South Florida business that has survived because of hard work, honest business practices, and the Melvin's genuine passion for serving the people of their hometown with pride.
